West Brom are 'looking' at signing Jack Wilshere

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that West Brom manager Steve Bruce is targeting a move for Jack Wilshere.

Bruce was only appointed as Valerien Ismael’s replacement on Thursday, but is already looking to improve his squad.

For the first time since 2011-2012, the 30-year-old is facing the prospect of going through an entire season without playing a single first-team game.

On that occasion, it was because he had suffered an ankle injury in pre-season. Right now, it’s because the midfielder doesn’t have a club and is still a free agent following his release from Bournemouth at the end of last season.

Wilshere has been training with Arsenal in recent months, although Mikel Arteta has played down the possibility of the midfielder re-signing for the Gunners, less than four years after he left to join West Ham.

He recently said in an interview that he even considered retiring having been restricted to just 36 first-team appearances in the last three-and-a-half years.

But Wilshere said that he believes he’s still good enough to play, and Jones reckons that newly-appointed Bruce could give the 34-cap England international a lifeline.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve heard that Jack Wilshere might be one they’re looking into, just to see what his situation is and whether he would have any interest in joining West Brom.”

Wilshere, who was once described as “amazing” by ex-Barcelona midfielder Xavi, showed last season that he can still compete at Championship level. However, his issue for most of his career, and especially in recent years, is whether his body will allow him to play games on a regular basis.
