West Brom 1-0 Swansea City: Swans made to pay for slow start

Swansea City were made to pay for a slow start as they slipped to their second Championship defeat of the season at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.

Jayson Molumby handed the hosts a deserved lead just before half-time and, despite an improved second-half performance, the Swans couldn't find an elusive leveller.

There will be much to ponder for boss Luke Williams, whose recruitment efforts came to a somewhat subdued end on deadline day, with Myles Peart-Harris the only addition to his squad. The midfielder one of four summer signings to start on the bench here.

Supporters may still feel a little uneasy about how well equipped their side are heading into the rest of the season on this evidence.

But there were some definite causes for optimism against a side that will surely be part of the top-six conversation come the end of the season, with Goncalo Franco coming closest to restoring parity midway through a vastly improved second half.

However, a run of three games without a win in all competitions will likely still play on the mind heading into the first international break of the season, and Williams will know he has to make the various components of his new-look side click sooner rather than later.

Wednesday's defeat in the Carabao Cup certainly brought questions around the depth of the squad to the forefront of the conversation once again, and anyone hoping for an instant reaction here, against a West Brom side that had previously won two and drawn one of their opening three games, would soon be disappointed.
