WeCrashed review: Truth is stranger than fiction with Apple TV+'s look at WeWork scandal

Not just for listeners looking to be entertained and informed through the medium but also for TV execs looking for their next series.

This month we've already had the middling Joe vs Carole, while before that came the infinitely more watchable, and successful, shows Dr Death and The Shrink Next Door both fresh from Wondery's audio archives.

Sitting somewhere in between these two extremes in terms of watchability is WeCrashed, which launched on Apple TV+ on Friday.

The eight part limited series stars Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway as Adam Neumann and Rebekah Paltrow Neumann (yes, Gwyneth's cousin), the married couple behind WeWork, the ubiquitous shared office space that for a while became celebrated as the next big tech unicorn.

The series is inspired by actual events and the love story between the power couple sits slap bang in the middle of it all. Neumann was the visionary and sweet talker behind WeWork, growing it from a single coworking space into a global brand valued at $47 billion in under a decade before his Messianic fervour and penchant for wandering the streets of New York barefoot, made investors so twitchy that its value plummeted to a fraction of that in less than a year.

With echoes of Disney+'s The Dropout, WeCrashed focuses very much on the ludicrous nature of big business, where firms are valued for billions even though they have never made a profit.
