But the summer of 2007 brought both chaos and change. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, saved City from bankruptcy by buying the club and quickly injected much-needed funds into his project.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson was lured into the club by the promise of ramping up the team's line-up. Eight fresh players were recruited, whose performances varied greatly, but one still has a special spot in City fans' hearts despite only spending two years in Manchester.
