We simulated Newcastle vs Man City on EA FC 24 to predict Carabao Cup third round clash

Manchester City face a tough trip to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both got on the scoresheet at the weekend as City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, keeping up their 100 per cent winning start to the Premier League season. Rodri was sent off in the victory, meaning Pep Guardiola will have to deal with more problems ahead of the trip to St. James’ Park.

The two sides have already met once this season, with City edging past the Magpies in a 1-0 win. The Carabao Cup was the only competition that City failed to win last season, dropping out in the quarter-finals after a shock 2-0 loss to Southampton.

So, could City advance in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday despite their injuries? Let's take a look.

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 24 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the hosts could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Botman, Hall; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Tonali; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

We predict that City could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gomez; Phillips, Nunes; Bobb, Foden, Doku; Alvarez.

City started on top, and it was almost the dream start for Oscar Bobb who was played through one-on-one with Nick Pope in the opening stages, but the 'keeper tipped the winger's effort onto the crossbar before smothering the loose ball in the box. The pressure mounted from City who were dominating the hosts, and just before the break Guardiola's side broke the deadlock.
