We 'signed' N'Golo Kante for Man United under Erik ten Hag and the results were impressive

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante is reportedly a summer transfer target for newly appointed Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Kante has only one year remaining on his current deal with the Blues, as Ten Hag looks to rebuild the United squad ahead of next season. A number of players at the club will be out of contract this summer, including Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, with the Serbian midfielder having already announced he will leave the club once his contract expires this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ten Hag is keen to bring the World Cup winner to Old Trafford believing that the 31-year-old still has the ability, experience and hunger to help United improve. United will not be able to offer the appeal of Champions League football next season, with United set to feature in either the Europa League or Europa Conference League depending on what result they can pick up against Crystal Palace on the final day.

So, if Kante was to make the move to United in the summer, what sort of impact could he have on Ten Hag's side? Could the World Cup winner help improve the team's performance?

To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2022 editor to arrange for Kante to join United at the start of the summer transfer window with Ten Hag as manager of United, using FM22 to run the simulation. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Tahith Chong and Lee Grant were all released, whilst Nemanja Matic, Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial were all sold.
