'We control what we can' - late kick-off, slippery field occupy Soyizwapi's mind ahead of QF

Springbok Sevens captain Siviwe Soyizwapi has laid out key areas his team will work on ahead of another late kick-off on Saturday in the Rugby Sevens World Cup.

The hosts play Ireland at 22:33 in the quarter-final, and although their performance against Chile looked polished (they won 32-5), Soyizwapi is urging for more from his charges. 

"It was a good game and a good start to the tournament, but there's always something to work on," he said.

"There was a lot of momentum we gave away on defence, and I think... and I'm not blaming the conditions, but the field being greasy under foot meant we slipped a few tackles, which is something we are going to have to work on. 

"It's part of our identity to have that contact dominance [in defence], so we'll definitely work on that."

Soyizwapi watched on from the sidelines in the first half of the match, with the 29-year-old only utilised in the second half to see the game out. One expects that tomorrow, he may be deployed from the start, with the skipper giving an honest assessment of the Irish.

Ireland beat England 17-5 to book their knockout place.

"They're a team that's structured, who love to play with the ball and that's our game as well," Soyizwapi said of the Irish.

"Ball possession will be key and with the kind of format we're playing, the basics will have to be spot on and there will have to be minimal mistakes."

The Blitzboks were quickest out the blocks [against Chile], scoring as early as the first minute of the game and that pleased the captain a great deal.
