Wayne Rooney admits Sir Alex Ferguson arguments stopped 'tears' from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani
Wayne Rooney reckons he often received the Sir Alex Ferguson hairdryer treatment as a decoy to prevent 'tears' from two Manchester United teammates.
During a record-breaking career at Old Trafford and beyond, Rooney scored more goals than anyone other United player in history - netting 253 times between 2004 and 2017.
He also won five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.
Many of those triumphs came alongside Portuguese stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.
Neither man needs an introduction for the part they played under Ferguson, but the former England captain says the legendary United manager took aim at him for a reaction during most half-time intervals, some of which came as part of a plan to send a message to Ronaldo and Nani.
Rooney told LADbible: "We actually had [an argument] I'd say almost every game at half-time.
"He would see how the game was going. He'd have a go at me. If Nani or Cristiano [Ronaldo] was dribbling along, losing the ball, he'd come in at half-time and have a go at me for dribbling.
"And he knew that would get me fired up.
"I'm looking, thinking; 'Are you joking here? I've got these two dribbling constantly and losing the ball, and you're having a go at me'. Then I'd go back at him. But he knew that'd get a good reaction out of me and that was his way of saying to these two; 'Stop dribbling with the ball'.
