Waterford part ways with head coach Danny Searle

Waterford FC have parted ways with head coach Danny Searle just five games into the new league season.

Searle was appointed in June 2022 a few weeks after Ian Morris' departure and guided the side to a second-place finish before they lost the final promotion/relegation play-off game against UCD.

The Blues have lost just once in their opening five league games, but trail Galway United, who have played a game more, by 10 points with Searle sent off in their last game, a 1-1 draw with Bray as the RSC.

They had been due to face Treaty United last weekend, but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitched.

The Tribesmen took the opportunity to extend their advantage by beating Longford, which has led to the the Munster side taking action.

Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Brian Murphy will take charge of the side as the hunt for a new boss begins with Waterford due to host Finn Harps on Friday.

"Waterford Football Club can confirm Danny Searle has been relieved of his duties as head coach," a club statement read.

"Everyone at Waterford FC would like to place on record their thanks to Danny for his hard work and professionalism during his time at the club.

"The search for his replacement will begin immediately, with Brian Murphy taking charge of the first team in the interim period."
