Towards the closing stages of the 2021 Formula 1 season, Alfa Romeo announced that it would field a new driver line-up in 2022. F1 legend Kimi Raikkonen announced his retirement just a few months prior, and the team followed it up with news that Antonio Giovinazzi's contract would not be renewed.

Both drivers had their feelings about their F1 careers coming to an end, but for Raikkonen, it was a decision he had already made at the start of the 2021 campaign. Giovinazzi, on the other hand, did not plan to be sidelined, but he will continue his motorsport career in Formula E this year, driving for the Dragon Penske team. As with any driver leaving F1 prematurely, Giovinazzi hopes to one day return to F1.

While Raikkonen and Giovinazzi have parted ways with F1, many did not seem to know that the two drivers shared an exceptional bond as teammates. The F1 Group recently shared a video on their social media channels of the two men at the final race of the 2021 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Forging a relationship

After the race, Raikkonen and his daughter, Rianna, met up with Giovinazzi to say their goodbyes. It was a heartwarming moment showing a completely different side to Raikkonen's character as opposed to the 'Iceman'
