Watch: Thiago produces outrageous trivela pass in Liverpool’s FA Cup win

Thiago Alcantara executed a pass of the season contender in the second half of Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the blockbuster encounter in the first period and earned a three-goal lead at the break courtesy of Ibrahima Konate’s header and Sadio Mane’s brace.

City were much improved after the interval and scored two of their own, but the Reds marched into the final of the domestic cup competition.

For all of Liverpool’s silky football against their title rivals, it was a Thiago pass in the latter stages in the capital that was the standout moment of quality.

Under pressure from Riyad Mahrez, the Spain international plucked the ball out of the sky on his chest and Mohamed Salah raced away in typical electric fashion on the right flank.

Thiago had enjoyed a flawless performance up to that point, but the trivela pass that followed was a thing of beauty that capped off his display.

“Thiago, top performance, but the whole midfield! That was football, eh,” Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match press conference.

“Naby [Keita], oof. Fabinho, compare the two games at City and today and you can see how important it is to give them a rest in specific moments.

“It’s not about ‘you’re not good, or whatever’, my boys always want [to play] but still don’t always deliver.

“I know them that well it must be a physical reason so we try to figure that out, so didn’t play during the week and now could play today and that gave the midfield a really nice rhythm.”

The Reds remain in the race to win the quadruple this season, and if Thiago replicates his Wembley showing over the next month, he could help the dream become a reality.
