WATCH | Sundowns fans invade pitch after treble-clinching Nedbank Cup final triumph

Police had to intervene as a crowd of Mamelodi Sundowns fans swarmed the pitch, destroying the prize-giving podium, at the end of the Nedbank Cup final held at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng on Saturday night.

Sundowns needed a Thapelo Morena neatly finished goal deep in extra time to triumph 2-1 over Marumo Gallants, who held the DStv Premiership and MTN8 champions at 1-1 after full-time.

However, the Chloorkop side would not be denied their sixth Nedbank Cup gong and a historic treble as the full-back swept home a Themba Zwane layoff in the box past Gallants goalkeeper Washington Arubi.

Fans could be seen jumping on the prize-giving podium immediately after the final whistle, which caused a delay to the prize-giving ceremony. However, organisers were able to give the Brazilians a dignified presentation after the crowd was cleared from the field.

Crown invasions marred the English Premiership after Everton fans and Manchester City supporters stormed onto the pitch following their teams' respective relegation escape and title triumph.
