Watch: Steve Smith Survives Despite Ball Hitting Stumps In Bizarre Incident During Champions Trophy Semifinal, Video Viral
The first semi-final of Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia in Dubai witnessed a bizarre moment. Australia skipper Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bat first. Australia got off to a good start with Travis Head comfortably dealing in boundaries. India got their first breakthrough in the form of Cooper Connolly, who was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for duck. Five overs later, Rohit handed over the ball to mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who struck immediately and dismissed Head for 39, providing India their biggest wicket of the day.
However, in the 14th over, which was bowled by Axar Patel, India missed out on a golden opportunity of getting their third breakthrough. Axar tried to trap Steve Smith with his spin as the ball got the inside edge of the bat and then went on to touch the base of the off-stump.
Unfortunately, despite the ball making contact with the stumps, the bails did not move, handing Smith a lifeline. Seeing this, the likes of Rohit Sharma and others were left utterly disappointed as the Australian skipper survived a close call.
