WATCH | Springbok stars congratulate Banyana on historic Wafcon victory: 'We are so proud of you'

The Springboks on Monday congratulated Banyana Banyana on their historic achievement after winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) last weekend.

Banyana beat Morocco 2-1 last Saturday to claim the country's first Wafcon trophy, 26 years after Bafana Bafana claimed the country's first men's continental victory.

"Banyana Banyana, we just want to say congratulations on winning the [Wafcon]. We are so proud of you," said utility back Damian Willemse.

"From all of us in the Springbok camp, well done and enjoy the celebrations."

Springbok women's head coach Stanley Raubenheimer also congratulated his Banyana comtemporary Desiree Ellis' team for the massive milestone.

Banyana arrive back in South Africa from Morocco on Tuesday morning, where they'll be welcomed by the Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa and what's expected to be hundreds to thousands of cheering South Africans.
