Watch Ross Tokely PUNCH rival in friendly match as he is branded ‘one of the biggest p***** in football’

Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle defender Ross Tokely has been slammed after footage emerged of him punching a rival off the ball during a friendly game.

The veteran stopper, who spent 16 years with the Caley Jags before a season with rivals Ross County, now plays for Nairn County in the Highland League. And a video clip that appeared on YouTube and Twitter captures him lashing out at an opponent in a game against Western Isles in Stornoway. The footage was uploaded by Island Footie and has been met with outrage. Record Sport columnist and former Hibs striker Tam McManus responded on social media to blast the 44-year-old, saying: “One of the biggest p***** I ever had the misfortune to come across in football. Big Tokes.”

Tokely had a reputation as a no-nonsense player during his time in the SPFL and was a target for St Mirren fans who never forgave him for an overzealous tackle that shattered the cruciate ligament of up-and-coming youngster Chris Kerr at Love Street in 1999. Kerr was forced out of the game for 18 months and despite several attempts at comebacks his promising career soon fizzled out. Tokely admitted some years later: "I remember the incident vaguely and it is not something I am proud of."
