The performance of Indian bowlers on Day 1 of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad was uneven to say the least. While the hosts were able to take two wickets in the first session, most bowlers struggled with consistency and Usman Khawaja's brilliant ton meant that Australia ended Day 1 in the driving seat. However, the one India player who earned praise for his commitment on the field was skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit looked proactive with his captaincy and kept trying out different bowling combinations to trouble the visitors. During the drinks break before Cameron Green came out to bat for Australia, Rohit was caught on video having an animated conversation with the team as he gestured towards the scoreboard and instructed his teammates.

The gestures were noticed by commentators who tried to guess the content of his speech.

"Seems like he was pointing to the scoreboard and saying 'just keep going. What we have done is come back strongly," said former India left-arm spinner Murali Kartik in the commentary box.

Opener Usman Khawaja struck the first century of the series by an Australian batsman as the tourists reached 255-4 on Thursday's opening day of the fourth Test against India.

The left-handed Khawaja, batting on 104, put on key stands including a 79-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Steve Smith, who made 38, to hand Australia a strong start.

After a long grind, Khawaja was batting alongside Cameron Green, on 49, at close of play after Australia elected to bat at the world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
