Watch: Man Utd’s Garnacho scores cheeky chip v Liverpool Under-23s

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho showed why he is so highly rated with a brilliant goal against Liverpool’s Under-23s.

Garnacho, who joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020, is widely regarded as one of the best young prospects at Old Trafford.

The winger has helped United’s Under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup final for the first time since 2011 by scoring five goals in five appearances in the competition.

Despite only being 17 years old, he’s already been called up to the Argentina squad and has been training with United’s first team.

“He has been training with us the last two weeks and he is one of the most promising players,” interim manager Ralf Rangnick said in April.

“He is only 17, but if he keeps his feet on the ground, he will not only be sitting on the bench but will be playing for this club.”

Garnacho then made his senior debut in United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, replacing Anthony Elanga in the final stages at Old Trafford.

After that cameo appearance in the Premier League, the winger dropped back down to the Under-23s for their final game of the league season.

Liverpool took the lead inside five minutes when Shola Shoretire’s backpass eluded goalkeeper Radek Vitek and trickled into the United net.

But United equalised when left-back Alvaro Fernandez won the ball back and picked out Garnacho, who raced through on goal and lobbed Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga.

Vitek made up for his error by saving a penalty from Leighton Clarkson, but he could do nothing to stop Rhys Williams from heading home Clarkson’s corner.

Jack Bearne made it 3-1 to Liverpool in the 63rd minute and United weren’t able to get back into the game.
