WATCH | Lewis Hamilton's F-word rant nothing new in F1 after Dutch GP win slips by

Lewis Hamilton's now-famous explosion during the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix has been the stuff of legends. The always calm, always PC (politically correct) servant of the sport lost his cool in the race's closing stages, sending him into an F-word rant over the team radio.

"That was the biggest f***-up," the 37-year-old yelled over the radio. "I can't believe you guys f****** screwed me. I can't tell you how p***** I am."

While some were quick to point the finger at a 'weakness' in the champion's near-bulletproof arsenal, the outburst is nothing new in F1. In all sports, athletes lose it in the heat of the moment, and Hamilton's rant is just that: a rant.

Of course, we can say that children are watching and hearing their hero run his mouth, but the outburst pales in comparison to what happens in some households and what they're allowed to watch on TV. Hamilton dropping F-bombs is mild and by far not the worst thing to have occurred in F1.

A risk was taken

It's easy to look at Sunday's Dutch GP and say that Mercedes-AMG should have done this or should have done that. Going into every race, each team has a plan for what they will do. This includes the race strategy, how they'll secure the best possible position, and what risks they're willing to take. Only Mercedes were within a chance of winning the race, and that is what ate at Hamilton.
