WATCH | IPL debutant Dewald Brevis faces first Mumbai Indians net session

South African batter Dewald Brevis has had his first net session for the Mumbai Indians ahead of the start of this week's Indian Premier League (IPL).

At this year's IPL auction, Brevis was sold by Mumbai for 3 crore (R6 million) after his breakthrough performance for South Africa at the U19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.

The 18-year-old ended as the highest run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 506 runs and was dubbed as 'Baby AB' due to his affection for the former Proteas star.

Brevis' batting style is similar to De Villiers and he also wore the number 17 on his shirt.

The youngster will make his IPL debut and becomes the youngest South African to play in the lucrative T20 tournament.

Brevis has since gone on to ply his trade for the Titans in the CSA T20 Challenge, scoring 145 runs in his seven games.

The Mumbai Indians on Tuesday posted a video on Twitter of Brevis participating in his first net session with the five-time IPL champions.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah hailed the young South African and hinted that he is a player to watch out for.

"The youngster is here. He is excited about his first day. He needs no introduction. You will soon find out. Let his game do the talking," Bumrah said in another Mumbai video.

Brevis is one of 11 South Africans in this year's 15th edition of the IPL.

The Mumbai Indians get their opening IPL encounter under way against Delhi Capitals on Sunday at 12:00 SA time.
