Watch: Fabrizio Romano provides update on Man Utd’s transfer plans

Manchester United have now made three signings this summer – but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that they don’t plan on stopping there and Frenkie de Jong is the next target.

Left-back Tyrell Malacia became United’s first signing of the Erik ten Hag era after they agreed to pay Feyenoord an initial £13million.

Former Tottenham and Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen then arrived on a free transfer and signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

United have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Lisandro Martinez. The defender will cost an initial £49million, and the move is subject to a medical being finalised and a UK visa being granted.

Ten Hag is still looking to bolster his squad further ahead of the 2022-23 season and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is still their top target.

“An important week is coming to understand more on the Frenkie de Jong situation,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“As of now, I’m told it’s still the same. There is an agreement in place between Manchester United and Barcelona, €75million plus €10million add-ons so everything is done between the two clubs.

“They are ready to complete the negotiation but Frenkie still wants to stay at Barcelona. This is the current situation. Let’s see what happens during the week because it’s going to be important to understand Frenkie’s final position and his agent’s final position.”

While the De Jong deal would take United’s total expenditure to over £120million this summer, they are also looking to address other areas.
