Watch Canadians compete at the World Athletics Championships

Andre De Grasse, Aaron Brown and Jerome Blake all qualified for Thursday's 200-metre semifinals after finishing fourth, fifth and fifth in their respective heats.

The men's semifinals begin at 8:02 a.m. ET.

Brown will run in heat 1 with two-time Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek of the U.S., Blake is in heat 2 with Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and 17-year-old Australian phenom Gout Gout, while De Grasse is in heat 3 with defending world champ Noah Lyles of the United States.

The top two in each heat plus the next two fastest overall will move on to the final on Friday.

World Athletics Championships Day 5 reaction; Canadians qualify for 200m semi-final

On the women's side, Canadian record holder Audrey Leduc qualified for the 200m semifinals after placing fourth in her heat. Canada's Jacqueline Madogo was sixth in her heat and did not advance.

Marco Arop's bid for a second consecutive men's 800m world title continues in the semifinals at 8:45 a.m. ET.

With only the top two in each heat automatically advancing, the big Canadian will race in heat 1 with Algeria's Djamel Sedjati and Britain's Ben Pattison, the bronze medallists at the 2024 Olympics and 2023 world championships, respectively.

The women's 800m heats, beginning at 6:58 a.m. ET, include Canada's Jazz Shukla and Maeliss Trapeau.

Coming off an 11th-place finish in the 1,500m, Canada's Gabriela DeBues-Stafford will run in the first heat of the women's 5,000m at 6:05 a.m. ET while Regan Yee is in heat 2 at 6:33 a.m. ET.
