Watch Brendan Rodgers Celtic press conference in full as he sets record straight on the futures of 4 stars

Brendan Rodgers confirmed Record Sport's exclusive that Reo Hatate and Liel Abada could be the next Celtic players to be handed new contracts after Stephen Welsh committed his future to the club.

The returning boss has six new signings to his name but just important to his second spell has been tying down key men. Welsh followed captain Callum McGregor and Japanese duo Kyogo and Daizen Maeda in signing on long-term and many have speculated that Abada and Maeda, whose contracts run until 2026, could be the next key men to sign up.

And when asked if new deals for that pair were on the agenda on the back of our story earlier this week, he said: "Clearly. Both very talented players and very much a part of what we want to do. Both have three years left on their deals so they're not up for renewal, but I'm sure their agents will be talking to the club."

Rodgers previously said he wants four competitive centre-backs in his squad and Welsh's new deal means he is almost certain to be one of them. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke are likely to be others and that leads to questions over Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales' futures.

And when asked if there were decisions to be made on those two specifically, Rodgers replied: "Yeah, there's always decisions on players. I said before by the time the window shuts, there will be movement within the squad. So that's what you're assessing at this moment."
