Watch: Alphonso Davies savages Man Utd captain Harry Maguire

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies can’t believe that Harry Maguire has the Manchester United captain’s armband over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Maguire joined United in an £80million deal in August 2019 and then became their captain following Ashley Young’s move to Inter Milan in January 2020.

But he has faced heavy criticism for his below-par displays this season and some pundits have called for the centre-back to have the captaincy taken away from him at Old Trafford.

“Harry was with me in Hull City and, in my opinion, he doesn’t have the level to be the Manchester United captain,” Ahmed Elmohamady recently told beIN Sports.

“Man United need a player with a strong personality and I hope that the next manager will give the captaincy to [Cristiano] Ronaldo if he stays.

“Ronaldo can handle this responsibility and pressure. However, Maguire can’t handle this pressure. So, I think that the pressure he has by wearing the captain’s armband is affecting his performances.”

Ronaldo returned to United last summer and has won 30 trophies at club level in his illustrious career, including three Premier League titles, two La Liga titles, two Serie A titles, five Champions Leagues and four FIFA Club World Cups.

But Maguire, who previously played for Sheffield United, Hull City, Wigan and Leicester City, has only ever won the 2016 Championship playoffs.

Davies was streaming himself playing FIFA 22 when he opened a pack with Maguire in it, causing him to give a brutal assessment of the United captain’s credentials.

Maguire had another nightmare moment during United’s trip to Goodison Park on Saturday. He inadvertently deflected Anthony Gordon’s strike into his own net as United lost their eighth Premier League game in 2021-22.
