Wasteful Chiefs lack precision as resolute 10-man Galaxy cling on for stalemate

Kaizer Chiefs squandered the chance to move ahead of arch-rivals Orlando Pirates as could not find a way past a stubborn 10-man TS Galaxy in a 0-0 draw at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The result means AmaKhosi remain in fifth place in the standings while The Rockets move up to 10th.

The match was delayed by 30 minutes due to overcrowding outside the stadium.

However, once the players walked out of the tunnel, the excitement and enthusiasm returned as everyone awaited kick-off.

There was also a minute's silence to the late Stellenbosch midfielder Oshwin Andries who passed away on Saturday.

The first ten minutes of the game were fairly even, as The Rockets dominated possession with nice moments from ex-Chiefs forward Bernard Parker and Sphiwe Mahlangu.

As the game went on Chiefs started to assert more control in their play as Keagan Dolly and Yusuf Maart started seeing more of the ball.

The first real chance fell for the away side as Dolly forced a fine save from Galaxy goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak in the 11th minute.

Caleb Bonfils Bimenyimana and Dolly combined well for the latter's low curling effort that was saved and Ashley Du Preez, who was full of confidence after scoring in the last game, could not get a good connection on the rebound.

Chiefs kept on knocking on the door in the 17th minute, Dolly delivering another dangerous ball, but, unlike last week against Royal AM, Sifiso Hlanti could not find the target.

The best chance of the half fell to Du Preez in the 28th minute.

Dolly was at his mercurial best as he delivered an eye of the needle ball through to the on-rushing Du Preez, whose effort went agonisingly wide.

Buoyed by Chiefs dominance, a minute later Galaxy responded immediately with their own chance.
