Nightmare in Soweto? Dolly's Chiefs dream still on track despite pressure: 'I can take it'

Kaizer Chiefs forward Keagan Dolly, who has had a rather lukewarm couple of seasons with the club, revealed that he has no regrets over ending his time in Europe to fulfil his dream of playing for the Soweto giants.

The 30-year-old penned a multi-million-rand deal with Amakhosi before the start of the 2021/22 season after his contract expired with French Ligue 1 outfit Montpelier.

Despite offers abroad elsewhere, Dolly chose to return to South Africa, but has his dream move to Chiefs become a nightmare?

"I knew when I came to Chiefs that there would be pressure, based on where I have played before and how I have performed before," Dolly told reporters ahead of the DStv Premiership Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

"I can take it. It is not something new to me. It’s a challenge that I need to deal with, and I feel like I am dealing with all of it. I don't feel like it's making me feel bad … It is a challenge I am looking forward to overcoming it."

Dolly amassed over 2000 minutes in 28 appearances for Amakhosi during his first campaign, and while he netted eight goals and contributed four assists, many feel he has not yet delivered on his top billing.

In the current season, the Bafana international has four goals and four assists to his name in 23 appearances in what has been a roller-coaster campaign under Arthur Zwane, who is getting a taste of top-flight football in his first gig as head coach of the club.

Dolly might be shouldering some responsibility, considering what is expected from such a decorated player.
