Warrington Wolves in talks with NRL live wire but face Super League competition

Warrington Wolves have held talks with Matt Dufty over a potential move to the club. Rugby League Live understands preliminary conversations have taken place with the fullback, who is off-contract at the end of the season.

Dufty is currently in the final months of a one-year deal with Canterbury Bulldogs and is believed to be open to a move to Super League. The 26-year-old, who was a regular for St George Illawarra Dragons during a five season spell at the club, has been scrutinised during his time in the NRL and is thought to be considering a change of scenery to continue his career.

Ultimately, the livewire will be able to earn considerably more remaining in the NRL and that will be a consideration that will weigh into his decision. However, at this stage there isn't thought to have been any significant interest down under, which would open a door for a move to Super League.

The Wolves are not thought to be alone. Leeds Rhinos made contact with Dufty last year and are again thought to be keeping tabs on developments surrounding his availability. Both clubs would have to clear cap space to make a move work though the Wolves appear to be in a better position to do so. The likes of Gareth Widdop, Stefan Ratchford, Mike Cooper and Josh Charnley are all off-contract, and with Widdop and Ratchford both taking spine roles, Dufty has the potential to be a natural replacement.

Likewise, Leeds do have Blake Austin off-contract though he's likely to be replaced by a natural halfback should he leave. Leeds already have two specialist fullbacks under contract in Jack Walker and Richie Myler and though the latter could revert back to
