'Wants him' - Sky Sports reporter drops 'statement transfer' news involving Liverpool

Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane could potentially join Bayern Munich this summer, according to reliable Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed another excellent season for the Reds, bouncing back after dipping below his usual standards last year, like so many Reds players in the Premier League.

Mane has scored 21 goals in all competitions in 2021/22 to date, not to mention winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, making him one of the front-runners to win the Ballon d’Or later this year.

The forward’s current Liverpool contract expires at the end of next season, however, meaning the club are running out of time to either extend his deal or cash in, and a worrying update has emerged regarding his future.

Taking to Twitter, Sky Sports journalist Plettenberg claimed that Mane’s representatives have spoken to Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidžić (HS) about a possible move this summer, although no negotiations between the clubs themselves have begun yet:

“Exclusive News Sadio Mane: Salihamidzic wants him! He is the desired „statement transfer“ in summer! No negotiations between Bayern & LFC so far. HS met his agent over the weekend. Mane was a topic. Talks about a contract extension between LFC & Mane difficult.”

There is no doubt that this is concerning from a Liverpool perspective, with Mane still such a force in world football and capable of playing at the top for several more years.

The hope is that this was nothing more than putting their name in the hat from Bayern, however, with the Bundesliga giants aware that he is more likely to be offered a new deal this summer, according to transfer insider Graeme Bailey.
