"Want to get the deal done this week" - Journalist drops major Man Utd update on £354k-p/w star

Manchester United want to get a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong done this week, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Spanish giants now look open to selling the Dutchman due to their financial situation, giving Erik ten Hag the chance to land his former Ajax player.

Last month, Barcelona manager Xavi said he wanted to keep De Jong at the Camp Nou but suggested that the club could be forced to move the 25-year-old on this summer because of money issues.

Since then, The Guardian has claimed that the La Liga outfit may be willing to sell their midfielder to United if an offer of around £72m arrives.

According to the same outlet, the Red Devils have already had a bid worth £60m, including add-ons, turned down, so they are not far away from Barcelona’s valuation.

When you consider all of that, De Jong moving to Old Trafford this transfer window is starting to look like a real possibility.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that United are not wasting any time and are hoping to conclude a deal for the player this week.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “United want to get the deal done this week and, to be honest, they see this as a statement of intent over where they are heading.

“That’s why they’re super keen to get this tied up as soon as possible, because they want to get other people into the club and let people know that just because they haven’t got [Darwin] Nunez doesn’t mean they don’t have ambition.”

From a football perspective, no. There are probably few midfielders who are better on the ball than De Jong.
