Walsall hand chance to Motherwell midfielder

Walsall have taken Motherwell midfielder Ross Tierney on a season-long loan as he struggled to nail down a place at Fir Park.

The 22-year-old signed a three-and-a-half year deal from Bohemians in January 2021, but made just 24 appearances last season, with injury striking at an unfortunate time.

Motherwell confirmed the move in a statement says he “goes south of the border in search of regular minutes on the pitch.

“We wish Ross all the best at Walsall this season.”

Tierney told the English League Two club’s website: “I’m really happy to join Walsall.

“I’m still only 22, but I’ve played a lot of games at senior level, so once the gaffer said he wanted me, I was happy to come.

“I’m an energetic, attacking midfielder and I like to link up with the strikers, so hopefully I can pitch in with some assists and goals.

“I want to play games, kick on here at Walsall, and have a good season.”

Walsall head coach Mat Sadler said: “Ross will bring some really good competition in that midfield area.

“He has been desperate to come down to England and show what he’s all about, so we feel very fortunate to have him here.”
