Wales U20s fall short in Scotland after two red cards put an end to title hopes

Wales U20s were left to rue two first-half red cards as their U20s Six Nations title hopes ended with a 27-12 defeat to Scotland U20s in Edinburgh.

Richard Whiffin's side imploded during the first 40 minutes after scrum-half Logan Franklin and second-row Tom Cottle received two red cards. Wales showed plenty of character but failed to take their opportunities whereas Scotland made the most of their numerical advantage.

Wales started well and enjoyed the lion's share of territory and possession during the first 15 minutes. A terrific break from electric wing Tom Bowen very nearly resulted in a try but after the rising Cardiff star got brought down Ioan Emanuel charged onto the ball only to be held up over the line.

Wales created opportunities but struggled to take them before Scotland hit back against the run of play. Scotland spread the ball from side to side before impressive openside Freddy Douglas brushed aside Evan Minto to score with Urwin adding the extras.

Wales' hopes took a huge blow when scrum-half Logan Franklin received a 20-minute red card for a very dangerous croc roll. Scotland made the most of their numerical advantage as they sucked Wales' forwards into the maul before spreading it wide for Nairn Moncrieff to score.

But Wales weren't prepared to line down and after Harry Beddall had won a penalty at the breakdown they pushed Scotland backwards at a rate of knots with their driving lineout. The Wales maul was brought down just short before Emanuel powered over from short range for their opening try which Wilde converted.
