Wales train crash sees major disruption on as two passenger services collide

There is severe disruption on a Welsh railway line tonight after a crash between two trains which has prompted a major emergency services response with services cancelled until further notice. The incident has taken place in the Talerddig area of Powys.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to the line near Llanbrynmair at 7.29pm on Monday, October 21, to reports of a low-speed train collision involving two trains. Paramedics, fire and rescue, and Dyfed-Powys Police are all in attendance and the incident is ongoing."

A joint statement from Network Rail and Transport for Wales, issued shortly after 10pm, said: “Emergency services are responding to an incident near Llanbrynmair in Powys, Mid Wales, involving two trains – the 18.31 Transport for Wales service from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 19.09 Transport for Wales service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury.

“The line is closed as they carry out their work. Our main priority is the safety of our passengers and colleagues and we are doing all we can to support the emergency services as they respond to the incident. We would encourage passengers to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling via National Rail Enquiries.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said at 10.40pm: "We were called at 7.34pm on Monday, October 21, to an incident near Llanbrynmair in Powys. Fire and rescue, Dyfed-Powys Police, and British Transport Police are in attendance and the incident is ongoing."
