Wales team announcement Live as Wayne Pivac names side to face South Africa in first summer Test

Wayne Pivac will officially name his Wales team today to face South Africa in Saturday's first summer Test in Pretoria.

The Wales coach is expected to throw a couple of surprises into the mix, with Tommy Reffell set to be handed his debut and Kieran Hardy likely to be the starting scrum-half. Dan Lydiate, recalled after a long-term injury, is also expected to start in the back-row to combat the world champions' physicality. Read more on what we know so far about the Wales line-up here.

Elsewhere, calls will have to made on whether Alun Wyn Jones, no longer the squad captain, starts in the second-row ahead of either Adam Beard or Will Rowlands, while George North could start his first Test since the final match of the 2021 Six Nations.

The Springboks named their team earlier in the week. Even without influential fly-half Handre Pollard and injured back-row duo Duane Vermeulen and Pieter-Steph du Toit, head coach Jacques Nienaber has been able to name a dauntingly strong side.

The backline features five of the seven backs who started the 2019 World Cup final against England, while the familiar 6-2 split on the bench means the Welsh pack won't get any respite when the match enters the final quarter.

Pivac names his team at 11.30am UK time and will face the media afterwards to explain his selection decisions, and you can follow live updates throughout the day right here.
