Wales sweat on fitness of captain Biggar for Springboks series

Wales are sweating on the availability of captain Dan Biggar ahead of their three-Test series against the Springboks.

The flyhalf was forced off injured in Northampton's 27-14 English Premiership semi-final loss to Leicester at Welford Road over the weekend.

According to the Wales Online website, the Biggar appeared to hurt his back attempting a charge down in the first half, pulling up in discomfort. He carried on playing, but eventually left the field after 51 minutes.

Biggar, who boasts 100 Wales caps, was recently named captain ahead of Alun Wyn Jones for the trip to South Africa.

If Biggar is not fit for the tour, head coach Wayne Pivac is likely to revert back to veteran Jones as his captain.

Biggar is one of three flyhalves named in the Wales squad, with Rhys Patchell and Gareth Anscombe the others.

The first Test is scheduled for Saturday, 2 July at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, before Tests in Bloemfontein (9 July) and Cape Town (16 July).
