Wales summer squad announcement Live as Wayne Pivac reveals hand for South Africa and Biggar set to retain captaincy

Wales boss Wayne Pivac will today announce his squad to face South Africa in a three-Test series in July, with Dan Biggar set to retain the captaincy over Alun Wyn Jones.

Pivac's side return to international action against the world champions in Pretoria on Saturday July 2, before heading to Bloemfontein for the second Test on July 9 and completing the series in Cape Town on July 16.

After a crisis-point defeat to Italy in the Six Nations finale - the first time Wales had lost to the Azzurri on home soil - we are in for an intriguing squad announcement given players admitted in the post-match huddle that some had just had their last chance to play international rugby.

As for the captaincy, Jones is not expected to resume his role even though he is poised to be named in the squad. It will be the first time since taking over the captaincy from Sam Warburton that Jones has not been named skipper for a campaign when fit and available. Read the full details here.

It is the first time Wales are touring South Africa since 2014, and they last faced each other in the 2021 autumn series where Wales were narrowly defeated 23-18 in Cardiff.

Pivac will name his squad at 12.30pm before holding a press conference this afternoon where he will give detail of his selection decisions. You'll be able to follow live updates and the talking points of the day right here.
