Wales release Sam Costelow update ahead of Six Nations finale

Wales haven't ruled out Sam Costelow featuring in their final Six Nations match against Italy this Saturday.

The Scarlets fly-half featured in the Round 3 clash with Scotland - producing his best performance for Wales before being forced off after 54 minutes with an ankle injury. Rather than be released back to his club, the 25-year-old stayed with Wales to recover from his knock.

Costelow wasn't fit for the trip to Dublin last Friday - with Dan Edwards brought back into the starting side for the 27-17 defeat to Ireland.

However, the hope was always that Costelow could feature against Italy as Steve Tandy's side go in search of their first win in this year's tournament.

Wales have confirmed he has been reintegrated into training, with medical staff continuing to monitor him through the week - although he did not feature in the part of Tuesday's training open to the media.

Aaron Wainwright is also expected to be fine to play, despite being an injury doubt ahead of Wales' clash with Ireland

Assistant coach Dan Lydiate said: "Obviously it was a physical game against Ireland. Everyone seems to be raring to go this week. Last week of the Six Nations. We’re looking forward to it, building on last week.

"To be fair, he’s (Wainwright) a warrior. He keeps going for us. He’s banged up but I think he’ll be good to go."
