Wales hopeful wins big at awards night just days before Wayne Pivac names squad for summer tour

Wales tour candidate Morgan Morris completed an impressive personal double as the Ospreys’ celebrated the 2021-22 season.

The No. 8 walked off with the Ospreys Supporters Club and the sponsors’ player-of-the-year gongs

Handed out at a glittering ceremony at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, the prizes crown a superb campaign for the 23-year-old.

With one game left to play, Morris has featured 19 times, spending more than a thousand minutes on the field and scoring six tries. He has made more carries, 136, than any other Wales-qualified player in the United Rugby Rugby Championship and has achieved the third most turnovers, with only Ospreys team-mate Jac Morgan and the Stormers’ Deon Fourie above him.

His highlights include a try-hat-trick in a man-of-the-match display against the Dragons and a seren-y-gem effort against Ulster in December. Morris also played the house down in adversity against Sale Sharks in the Heineken Champions Cup.

Wayne Pivac watched him against Sale but the back-rower didn’t make the cut for the Six Nations. However, he has held his form and could be in with a shout of figuring in Wales’ squad for their summer tour of South Africa, announced on Tuesday.

Able to play across the back row, Morris finished ahead of Rhys Webb, Morgan, Dewi Lake, Adam Beard and Luke Morgan in winning the Ospreys supporters’ award, with the region's title sponsors Philtronics naming him as their top player as well. You can read more about Morris here.

The highly promising Harri Deaves took the pathway player of the year bauble, with Michael Collins’ touchdown against the Scarlets recently being named try of the season.
