Wales 21-37 England U20s: Visitors too strong for winless Wales in nine-try Six Nations thriller

Wales’ winless run in the U20s Six Nations continues after a nine-try thriller against England at Colwyn Bay.

Byron Hayward’s side welcomed the table toppers to north Wales as they looked for their first win of the tournament on Friday night but were blown away in a breathless first half which saw the visitors secure the bonus point after half an hour.

There was no shortage of endeavour from Wales, who started the contest as the brighter team, but a try from former squad member Josh Hathaway, who jumped ship to England at the start of the championship, opened the floodgates after quarter of an hour.

Minutes later, Joe Woodward pirouetted his way over the line for England's second, and despite an immediate response from Wales' Oli Andrew, the visitors fired back emphatically, with Rekeiti Ma'asi-White and Tobias Elliott adding tries three and four and wrapping up the bonus point.

Wales weren't out of it yet with a penalty try in the last minute of the first half sending Hathaway to the bin and reducing the deficit of eight, before a blindside break from Dan Edwards set up Andrew for his second try of the night.

It was to be heartbreak for Hayward's men, however, as two tries from Benjamin Waghorn consigned them to their third defeat of the championship. While England are now Grand Slam contenders, Wales are looking at finishing the tournament with the wooden spoon.I
