Waitrose shoppers issued scam warning over 'convincing' fake website for placing Christmas food orders

Waitrose customers are being warned over a new scam aiming to steal their personal details.

Consumer champion Which? said new websites are popping up impersonating the official Waitrose website. Customers are reportedly being targeted by phishing emails which direct them to a fake Christmas food shopping website.

When the customer enters the convincing copycat site, they are presented with a chance to sign up for a fake John Lewis savings bond scheme. Typing details into this form allows the scammer to collect personal information which could lead to a scam call where you'll be invited to invest in a fake scheme.

Which? has released a screenshot of one of the fake websites it has reported. It uses 'convincing' John Lewis and Waitrose branding.

Customers are being urged to stay vigilant and avoid clicking on any links from phishing emails. They are also being advised to not share any personal information whatsoever on these websites.

If you believe you've already shared your details with a scammer, you should keep an eye out for any unexpected calls asking for you to pay money or collect your banking details. Suspected scam emails can be reported to report@phishing.gov.uk while shifty websites can be directly reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.
