Wade remains in hospital in Germany after falling ill

James Wade remains in hospital in Germany after taking ill at the European Darts Open last Sunday.

Wade, winner of 11 major titles in the PDC, had to withdraw from his semi-final after complaining of several symptoms including an irregular heartbeat.

In a statement on his social media account, Wade is described as "comfortable" but not yet well enough to return to England.

It read: "James Wade was forced to retire prior to the semi final, and was taken to Leverkusen hospital following advice from a German paramedic team that were called to the venue to assist the Aldershot ace after he felt extremely unwell during the event.

"Following his admission to hospital, Wade underwent a series of test to establish the cause of serious symptoms including a racing heart, high blood pressure, nausea and dizziness.

"He is now comfortable and improving he is being detained by the hospital team for observation and further treatment is currently not fit enough to fly home."

Wade's wife Samantha is unable to travel to Germany as she is pregnant with their second child but also issued a statement assuring fans he will return to the oche as soon as possible, while prioritising his health.

He is due to play in Premier League this week, an event he is now very unlikely to take part in.

Wade won a thrilling final to take victory against Jonny Clayton in the competition at Dublin's 3Arena last month.
