WA crush Victoria in one-day Cup match

Victoria's batsmen crumbled before a D'Arcy Short half-century powered Western Australia to a six-wicket win in their one-day cup match.

The Victorians were bowled out for a meagre 143 in 39.4 overs, with captain Aaron Finch top-scoring with 67 in Tuesday's clash at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

WA, with Short making 54 from 49 balls, cruised to their target, reaching 4-145 from just 27.1 overs.

Short struck nine fours in his knock, combining with veteran teammate Shaun Marsh (31) to lay the victory platform.

Short and Marsh put on 74 runs in less than 15 overs after the early loss of Josh Philippe for eight.

Allrounder Hilton Cartwright then motored the visitors to their target, hitting five fours in a brisk 22 from only 11 deliveries.

Victorians Cameron McClure (3-38 from eight overs) and James Pattinson (1-37 from eight overs) were the only wicket-takers for the home side, whose batsmen failed to post a competitive total.

Only Finch's 67 from 100 balls saved the Vics from a complete rout - the Australian white-ball skipper was the sole Victorian to pass 16.

Tailender Henry Thornton made 16 but besides he and Finch, only Peter Handscomb (12) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (10) reached double-figures.

WA's Aaron Hardie collected 3-28, paceman Jhye Richardson was outstanding with 2-12 from eight overs and Jason Behrendorff took 2-27 from eight overs.
