W Series champion Chadwick to test Indy Lights car

Britain's Jamie Chadwick will test an Indy Lights car with Andretti Autosport this month as she considers her next step beyond the all-female W Series she has dominated since the first season in 2019.

The 24-year-old, who is also part of the Williams Formula One team's driver academy, is heading for her third W Series crown this year but is determined to move up the motorsport ladder.

"I want the opportunity to keep progressing and America looks to be a really positive place," she told Sky Sports at the Dutch Grand Prix on Friday.

"It's just a test at the moment, we're evaluating options still, but Andretti fortunately have come along at a good time and I'm really looking forward to it."

Andretti Autosport is run by 1991 IndyCar (CART) champion and former grand prix driver Michael Andretti, who is also looking to enter Formula One with his own team.

U.S.-based Indy Lights is sanctioned by IndyCar and is the main support series for that single-seater championship. The cars lack power steering and are a big step up from the W Series.

W Series has targeted helping a female driver reach Formula One for the first time since 1976.
