Vivianne Miedema, Caroline Weir: The nominees for GMS Fans’ WSL February Player of the Month

Though there were only two rounds of WSL fixtures in February, fans were still treated to some thrilling action.

Chelsea and Arsenal faced off in a top of the league clash, and while the game finished goalless, there was certainly enough drama as the Blues were denied a late penalty.

At the other end of the table, Leicester enjoyed an outstanding month –– winning both of their games, to move clear of Birmingham in last place.

As ever, there were a number of standout individuals. We’ve chosen six who impressed us the most and now it’s up to you to decide who wins the GMS Fans’ Player of the Month award.

Though Miedema uncharacteristically failed to score in February, she was still as influential as ever –– playing deeper than usual in order to have more of a creative impact.

This was best evidenced against Man United. Arsenal trailed the Red Devils with just 10 minutes to go before the Dutch star threaded an exquisite through ball into the path of new signing Stina Blackstenius, who calmly slotted home.

Some fans described the pass as one of the ‘best of all time,’ while others acknowledged that Miedema is far more than just a striker.

So far this season, the 25-year-old has 15 goal contributions in total –– more than anyone else in the league.

When Manchester City play Manchester United it seems almost inevitable that Caroline Weir will score, and that’s exactly what happened again in February.

In 2019, the Scot scored a sumptuous chip that was nominated for the Puskás Award and her strike last month was almost identical.

Weir’s chip proved to be decisive as City held on to secure three crucial points and boost their chances of securing Champions League football next season.
