Virgin media issues update after nationwide broadband outage

Virgin Media has issued an update after customers reported a widespread internet and broadband outage on Tuesday morning.

The telecoms provider said that it had fixed the connectivity issues at around 11.30am with sitetracker Downdetector first reporting the issue at around 2am. A spike of connectivity issue reports also came in at around 7am.

Speaking on Twitter, Virgin Media said: "We’ve restored broadband services for customers but are closely monitoring the situation as our engineers continue to investigate. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Despite this, several users were still reporting problems. Downdetector found that 74 per cent of users were having problems with their landline internet while 24 per cent reported a complete blackout.

Similar spikes were also recorded at around 2am and 7am for other providers such as BT, O2, and TalkTalk. Virgin initially said: “We’re aware of an issue that is affecting broadband services for Virgin Media customers as well as our contact centres.

“Our teams are currently working to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible and we apologise to those customers affected.”
