Virgil van Dijk delights Celtic fans as eagle eyed punters spot throwback to viral Rangers moment

Eagled-eyed Celtic fans have spotted Virgil van Dijk replicating a moment from a Rangers derby clash during the Champions League win over the Scottish Premiership side.

The Battle of Britain showdown was decided by an inch-perfect Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick in the first half, before Leon King fouled Luis Diaz in the box and allowed Mo Salah to slot home the second. It could have been worse for Gio van Bronckhorst's men had it not been for Allan McGregor's impressive display, as he denied £90 million frontman Darwin Nunez on several occasions to keep the Group A clash at a respectable scoreline.

For Van Dijk, it was the first time he has faced off against Rangers since his days at Celtic Park, before he made the move to the English Premier League and Southampton to skyrocket his career. The move to Anfield followed along with a Champions League and Premier League winners medal, but some Parkhead fans were quick to point out a familiar clash that they believe was recreated on Merseyside on Tuesday.

The Netherlands international nips in front of Ibrox loanee Malik Tillman and comfortably takes the ball away from the forward in Liverpoo l's defensive third. Once the ball is passed away, Van Dijk appears to shove Tillman to the ground.

Celtic fans were quick to point a much replayed incident during the League Cup semi-final win over their rivals back in 2015. During the 2-0 win for the Hoops, the centre-back can be seen striding forward as he calmly shrugs off a tackle from Nicky Law. A Celtic fan commented on Twitter: "Shades of the game at Hampden."

Another Parkhead supporter joked: "He's still man-handling Rangers after all these years. You never lose it."

One punter believes the reaction from Tillman
