Virals: Liverpool target Kenny Rocha Santos confirms January 'contacts'

Liverpool were linked with a surprise swoop for KV Oostende midfielder Kenny Rocha Santos in January and the player would appear to have confirmed some interest. 

The 22-year-old is an energetic box to box operator who joined the Belgian Pro League side from AS Nancy in 2021.

Despite an under the radar career to date, the Reds were reportedly ‘tracking’ the Cape Verde international during the mid-season window.

Now, Rocha Santos has told Voetbal Nieuws that there were indeed discussions regarding a potential transfer. 

“There have been contacts between my manager and some clubs, but it’s not like an immediate transfer was in the air. For me, there was never any doubt. It was certain that I would still be playing for KV Oostende after the new year. I know many players dream of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A… But if I could choose, I would like to play a Champions League match one day.”

This season the 11-cap ace has scored once and provided three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. 

Valued at £1.62million and under contract in Belgium until 2025 (Transfermarkt), signing Rocha Santos would be a rather left-field but wholly affordable option for Jurgen Klopp. 

Known to go against the grain of signing world-renowned stars, bringing the Cape Verdean to Anfield would be perhaps the most surprising deal of the German’s tenure to date.
