Violent scenes in Piccadilly Gardens as teenager 'pinned against wall and hit in the head' by group of men

Violent scenes erupted at Piccadilly Gardens on Tuesday (March 5) after a man was reportedly pinned against wall and hit in the head by group of men.

The attack happened in the early hours of Tuesday, at around 2.10am, in which the victim, aged in his late teens, was approached by a group of unknown men.

He was then pinned against the wall, before the group hit him in the head and stole his mobile phone, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. Officers responded to the report and arrested four men at the scene.

Four men between the ages of 22 and 26 have been arrested on suspicion of personal robbery and remain in custody for questioning by GMP’s Manchester Central Neighbourhood Crime Team.

Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald, from GMP’s Manchester Central Neighbourhood Crime Team said: “Nobody should be made to feel unsafe in their community and robbery is a heinous offence that can leave a long lasting negative impact on the lives of those who fall victim to it.

“This kind of violent behaviour is responded to robustly in Greater Manchester, and officers in our Neighbourhood Crime Team are working hard to tackle this type of offence to keep communities safe.

"I hope these arrests send a clear message that we will investigate this kind of crime thoroughly, and work to ensure those responsible for it face the consequences of their actions."

Anyone concerned or anyone with information can report it online at www.gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
