Vincent Kompany sends warning to Manchester United ahead of Burnley clash

Vincent Kompany hopes to create good memories against Manchester United as a manager when he hosts them at Turf Moor this evening.

Belgian Kompany spent 11 years at Manchester City as a player, seeing the momentum in the city switch from Old Trafford to the Etihad. It was his goal in a 1-0 derby win in April that allowed Sergio Aguero's famous winner against QPR to happen, while he was also present for the 6-1 thrashing.

Since taking charge of Burnley in the Championship last season, the 37-year-old has become one of Europe's most promising managers. The Clarets are yet to win on their return to the top-flight but Kompany hopes to kick the season off against his old rivals.

“I’ve got a few (memories) but I’d like to make new moments as a coach,” Kompany said. “I can’t keep putting my achievements as a player forward. It’s about my achievements as a manager now.

“I live in Manchester and the family is red and blue so there will be more people watching this game with particular attention within my ranks, it will always be a special fixture. I’d like to make my own memories now as a coach and we’ll see when that moment comes.

“Being a player, nothing beats that feeling but being a coach is the closest thing, whether it’s (against) United or any other game, it’s the closest thing to what you experience as a player.”
