Vincent Kompany details moment he knew Man City had ended Manchester United dominance

Vincent Kompany has recalled a 'dull' trip to Old Trafford in which he knew Manchester City were about to topple Manchester United's dominance.

Kompany joined City in the summer of 2008, enduring several campaigns in which the Blues were inferior to their Manchester rivals before eventually winning their first Premier League title in the 2011/2012 season. That season began a short period in which the two would compete for the title before Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Since the Scot's exit, City have enjoyed unparalleled dominance, winning six of the next 10 titles and completely overshadowing United. Kompany experienced every chapter from the change of power in Manchester, and ha recalled the moment he knew the tide was turning.

"We went to Old Trafford, we didn't play well," Kompany recalled, speaking to Gary Neville on the Overlap. "I think we lost 1-0 or 2-0 but it was a dull game.

"My first experience of going to Old Trafford, you had Tevez, Ronaldo, Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Evra just going [wags finger up and down the line]. The game finished, they’d just high-five each other and walk off. It was an easy game, I hated that.

"But two years later to see them just get like a dull game, not really getting anything and we weren't really scared, I knew one more transfer window and we got them. I knew it was coming.

"Everything happened in the right moment because Sir Alex Ferguson retired and for us it was a big one to win it when he was manager. But to be frank it was absolutely normal that United [drop].
