Vince McMahon: Michael Cole's six-word subtle dig at ex-WWE CEO at SummerSlam

WWE SummerSlam was a rather big show, being the company’s first-ever pay-per-view without Vince McMahon in charge.

The show was run by Head of Creative Triple H, who took over the role from his father-in-law following his retirement last week.

Fans were generally quite impressed with the show, with many now quite excited for what WWE is going to look like under the former World Champion.

One person who benefitted from the regime change was Michael Cole, who many fans feel did some of his best work last night.

One of the main criticisms of Vince during his time with WWE was how he’d constantly shout in the ear of commentators during the match, making their jobs that much harder.

This was referenced on commentary during SummerSlam last night, with Michael Cole taking a subtle shot at his former boss.

During the Pat McAfee v Happy Corbin match, Graves said that he preferred Cole when he wasn’t allowed to have an opinion, which was obviously a reference to Vince.

And as you can see from the clip below, Cole fired back, saying that had changed, before adding that a lot had changed, a little nod to the major shifts going on in WWE right now.

Michael Cole has been sending out subtle little things on commentary tonight but this was my favoriteCorey Graves: "I liked you better when you weren't allowed to have an opinion"Cole: "That's changed. A lot has changed…"pic.twitter.com/RV563A5gIn

The reaction to the clip has been positive, with fans commenting on how reinvigorated Cole must feel without having McMahon in his ear all the time.

Wonder how relieved Michael Cole must feel now that he no longer has to worry about Vince McMahon being in his ear at all times.#Summerslam https://t.co/k037gRldNh
