Vince Carter to be 1st player in Raptors' 30-year history to have number retired: reports

Vince Carter will become the first player in the Toronto Raptors' 30-year history to have his number retired, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Carter, 47, and his No. 15 jersey will be honoured Nov. 2 when the Raptors face the Sacramento Kings at Scotiabank Arena, according to reports from TSN and ESPN.

Nicknamed "Air Canada" during his time north of the border, Carter was the 1998-99 NBA rookie of the year with Toronto and averaged 23.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists over six-plus seasons with the Raptors.

Carter, who will be inducted with the Hall of Fame's Class of 2024 next month, will also have his number retired by the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 25, 2025, the team announced last week.

Carter still holds the Raptors' single-season scoring record with 27.6 points per game in 2000-01. He ranks fourth in franchise history in career scoring with 9,420 points.

An eight-time all-star, Carter is the only player in NBA history to compete in four decades. The 1998 first-round pick retired after the 2019-20 season with 25,728 points in 1,541 games with eight NBA teams.
